Children's Medical Center of Dallas: The Children's psychiatry inpatient program serves up to 12 children and adolescents who require 24-hour care. We are the only facility in the North Texas area that specializes in treating children and adolescents with eating disorders and combined medical/psychiatric problems. Additionally, children and adolescents with psychiatric disorders that cause them not to be able to function at home and in school are treated here. This program is uniquely committed to providing care for psychiatric patients with a variety of medical diagnoses such as cancer, diabetes, asthma, cystic fibrosis, cardiac abnormalities and others. Contributing to the therapeutic milieu is an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, milieu therapists, family therapists, teachers, recreational therapists and chaplains. Individual treatment goals for each patient include behavior programs incorporating positive reinforcement and limit setting to foster growth and change. Classroom, cultural, recreational and daily living activities offer additional opportunities to evaluate and modify maladaptive behaviors or ineffective coping skills.
